Nuit Blanche 2010 : what’s on in Paris?

Since 2002, year of the first edition, the “Nuits Blanches” (White Nights) have emerged as a key event in Paris every year, in October. Here, as well as in Brussels, Toronto, Lima and Madrid where the concept has spread out, the streets of the city become the scene of ephemeral artistic events for one night.
The “Nuit Blanche 2010” will take place during the night from Saturday 2nd to Sunday 3rd of October. The curator is the new director of Venice’s Palazzo Grassi, Martin Bethenot.
Unlike the previous editions, this Nuit Blanche 2010 will focus on three geographical areas (East / West / Centre of Paris) connected by the metropolitan lines 9 and 14 (NB: all metros will run until 2am): Alma-Trocadero, Marais and Belleville. This voluntarily central configuration aims at reducing the distances, making a Nuit Blanche 2010 on foot finally possible! With installations every 100 meters, the viewer will regularly encounter works of art throughout his walk. The works shown will be “discrete and poetic” for a decidedly “intimate” night.
Here are some of the works of art that particularly intrigued us: Dominique Blais’ voice-over in the metro line #14, a choreography by Tino Sehgal inspired by the most famous kisses of art history at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, a church Notre-Dame plunged into darkness by Thierry Dreyfus, or the fascinating neon signs projected by Hakima el Djoudi on the facades of the Rue de la Fontaine au Roi.
The event will be covered by 20 Tweet-reporters and 10 photographers selected by the City of Paris. Tweets and Pictures that will best restore the atmosphere of the White Night 2010 will be elected by the public and rewarded by professional kits.

While we can hear here and there about a new heat wave in France, Paris Plages is about to invade the banks of the Seine, just like every summer. 2,000 tonnes of sand will soon be dumped along the banks of the Seine (Quai Georges Pompidou, on the Left Bank), and a few other places (the forecourt of City Hall, La Villette basin, the Reuilly lawn) to transform Paris into an epehmeral seaside resort.
From July 20 to August 20 2010, everyone could then enjoy this unusual setting, according to his own wishes: after work for a refreshing drink, or throughout the day, to test all the activities proposed by Paris Plages til late in the evening : petanque, “bal musette”, tango, and water sports (kayaking, sailing, pedal boat …) are available along the Villette basin, while you could enjoy tai chi lessons, roundabouts, ballroom dancing, and outdoor table-foot matches on the banks of the Ourcq canal.
And to transform Paris Plages into a true party, free concerts will be held on the forecourt of the City Hall every Friday and Saturday from 17 pm, in partnership with the Festival “Fnac Indétendances”. 22th Puces du Design – from 27th to 30th may 2010

Considered as a key event by all collectors and design dealers from everywhere, the 22nd Puces Du Design will take place from 27 to 30 May, along the Loire quayside, in the 19th arrondissement of Paris.
Since its inception more than ten years ago, this very special flea market that focuses on furniture, objects and fashion of the ‘50 to the ‘80, attracts specialists as well as Sunday walkers.
A success explained by the quality of the objects, as well as by the free entrance. Year after year, the Puces du Design have contributed to familiarize the public with this discipline, and set up formica and tam-tam stools as cult objects!

The 6th Long Night of the Museums

Dusty? Plain? Elitist? We believe this cliché about museums has had its day, as the curve of attendance of exhibitions in France and abroad continues to grow.
Indeed, in recent years, institutions demonstrate obvious efforts to be accessible and to offer the public a playful and friendly framework to its visit. But when the spirit of the party enters the doors of the institution, it’s even better!
Such was the bet of the “Nuit des Musées” at the beginning of the 2000′s: an opening doors of the museums overnight and for free, aimed to make young people and persons who are not used to the national collections, getting into them.
